The Soweto-born actor Mpho Sebeng has died after he was involved in an accident in Potchefstroom, North West on Sunday, May 5.
Fullview understands that he was travelling with another person when the accident happened.
According to the Sebeng family, the actor died in a car accident in Potchefstroom, North West, in the early hours of Sunday morning.
A family spokesperson Oupa Morake asked South Africans to pray for the family, during this difficult time.
“Your purpose will always be aligned with what you can do well. And it comes from somewhere there, it’s not tangible, but whatever you can do well, there’s always a greater reason for you doing it.”
Born on 1 December 1992, in Soweto, Mpho Sebeng was the eldest of two children in his family.
He dropped out of Wits University in his third year, when he only had one more module to do towards his BA Law degree. He majored in politics and philosophy. It was at the height of the Fees Must Fall protest and he was expelled for his involvement.
His television debut came at the tender age of 12, with roles in award-winning shows such as Justice for All and Zero Tolerance.
Some of his notable performances included roles in Bay of Plenty, Khandakulu, and Scandal.
However, it was his portrayal of Tsietsi in the film Winnie, about the life of Winnie Mandela, that marked a high point in his career, allowing him to work alongside prominent actors such as Jennifer Hudson and Terrence Howard.
Sebeng’s breakthrough role came with the television series Ring of Lies, where he delivered a performance that earned him a nomination for the 2018 South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTAs) for Best Male Actor in a telenovela.
He was also part the cast of the latest Netflix series, Savage Beauty. The series is centred on Zinhle, a mysterious young woman seeking revenge against a powerful family.
Tributes have begun to flood in from fans, fellow actors, and industry professionals, all expressing their sorrow and commemorating his contributions to the arts.

Actor Florence Masebe wrote: “What a fine young man. What a talent. What a dedicated thespian. Sending love and prayers to the Sebeng family and all Mpho’s loved ones.”
The SABC also paid tribute on X: “The SABC is saddened by the untimely passing of the actor Mpho Sebeng. His immense contribution to the entertainment industry will never be forgotten. The SABC extends its heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and fans.”
Actor, TV and radio presenter Lwando Mbelu wrote: “Not only a former colleague but a brother to me. My best LIVE TV moments on Craz-e were with him. You made presenting LIVE TV so easy and fun for me… A generous performer and a kind, genuine soul! I’m heartbroken man.
