SA rapper Da L.E.S stable after suffering a stroke.

South African rapper Leslie ‘Da L.E.S.’ Mampe is admitted to a local hospital and is in a stable condition after suffering a stroke on 26 July.

The 39-year-old suffered a stroke on his birthday at his home in Joburg.

The news about Da Les’ condition was confirmed by his family. “The family of renowned South African musician Da L.E.S is deeply saddened to inform the public that he suffered a stroke at home on Friday, 26 July 2024 and has been hospitalised,” a statement reads.

Celebrities, including Tamara Dey and Pearl Thusi, are wishing rapper Da L.E.S a speedy recovery. 

Shortly before the ‘All Eyes On Me’ musician was set to appear at his birthday celebration at a club in Rosebank, it was announced that he would no longer attend. 

“Due to unforeseen circumstances, Da L.E.S. will unfortunately not be in attendance at his birthday celebration this evening. Thank you for understanding,” a post on his Instagram page read. 

It was later announced that Da L.E.S, had suffered a stroke on Friday, July 26. 

“Whilst he is in a stable condition, this remains a challenging time for his loved ones, and his family call on the public to keep him in their thoughts and prayers as they navigate this difficult period,” his family said in a statement. 

The Deputy Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, Peace Mabe has sent her best wishes to the Hip Hop star Da L.E.S.

Da L.E.S. is currently in a stable condition, and the Deputy Minister Mabe together with the MEC of Health in Gauteng, Nomantu Ralehoko are in constant communication with the family to ensure the rapper is provided with the required medical attention and support.

“On behalf of the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, we wish Da Les a speedy recovery and join his family, friends and fans in prayer for his full recovery and wellbeing.”

“We have had the opportunity to interact with his mother, who is currently in the USA and have extended our well wishes to her and the family. We have assured them of our continued support and encouragement,” said Mabe.

“We want to show our love and support to the family of Da L.E.S during this trying period and to let them know that the country is behind them, and we are praying for his speedy recovery, so he can get back to contributing to our music and being motivation and inspiration to our young people.”

The Family and the Department are in constant communication and the family will provide any further updates with regards to the hospitalization and recovery of Da Les.

Da Les’ rose to fame in the early 2000s as a member of the hip hop group Jozi. After the group disbanded, he pursued a solo career, releasing his debut album Fresh 2 Def in 2010. He gained widespread recognition with his hit single ‘Fire’ in 2013, followed by successful albums like Mandela Money (2014) and Diamond in Africa (2016). Da L.E.S is known for his unique blend of hip hop, trap, and African rhythms.
