Moroka Swallows have confirmed that 22 players, who protested in December — over salary dispute have been dismissed.
Swallows had encoutered problems in recent weeks after being rocked by player-strikes.
The players were demanding their outstanding salaries.
The strike led to the cancellation of their two league game against Mamelodi Sundowns and Golden Arrows. They were fined R1 million, with R600,000 suspended, while games were rated as walk-overs.
The club’s lawyer Leruma Thobejane confirmed the news during an interview with Robert Marawa on Radio 94.7FM on Friday afternoon.
“All the players that were charged and appeared before the Disciplinary Committee of Swallows, some were found guilty.”
“Three batches of players were represented by different legal representations. Some were represented by the South African Football Players Union. Those have all been found guilty and dismissed.”
“We are waiting for the verdict on players represented by two private entities. Today 22 players have been dismissed.”
Gold Rush, a hospitality and gambling company, were on the verge of joining Swallows as a sponsor in a deal worth at least R15-million per season.
But the stumbling block was the PSL’s declaration for betting companies before the agreement could be ratified, as Gold Rush refused to agree thereto.
