Two people have been shot dead, several wounded after suspects opened fire at a block of flats on Diamond Street, Eldorado Park, South of Johannesburg.
SA Police Services (SAPS) Spokesperson Brenda Muridili confirmed the shooting, saying officers have launched a manhunt and are actively searching for the gunmen.
Muridili said, “It is alleged that, there was a social gathering in that venue when a group of about eight unknown men entered the yard and started shooting randomly at the people before fleeing the scene on foot.”
“Police responded to a shooting accident after 10.30pm on Saturday night. Two people already declared dead by paramedics and six taken to a local hospital with gunshot wounds, ” she added.
“The police are searching for suspects after a shooting in Eldorado Park that left two people dead and six injured on 14 March 2026,” said Muridili. “No arrests have been made yet.”

Meanwhile soldiers have been deployed on the streets of biggest city nearly a month after the president announced the army would work alongside the police to tackle high levels of crime.
On Wednesday, troops touched down on the streets of Eldorado Park, a working class suburb in the country’s economic capital, Johannesburg, that has high levels of crime and gang violence.
The deployment will focus on illegal mining in the Gauteng, North West and Free State provinces, and gang violence in the Western Cape and Eastern Cape provinces.
