SA Police Services (SAPS) National Commissioner General Fannie Masemola promises that the killer of Warrick “DJ Warras” Stock will be arrested before the end of the weekend.
Stock was murdered in Johannesburg’s central business district on Tuesday, 16 December 2025.
His murder is believed to be tied to his work of recovering hijacked buildings in the CBD, which he also spoke strongly against on various social media platforms in recent months.
Hijacked buildings in Johannesburg is not a new phenomenon, with roots tracing back to the post-apartheid era and the subsequent waves of urban migration.
It has contributed significantly to urban decay, transforming once-vibrant structures into dilapidated spaces characterized by a lack of maintenance and severe overcrowding, often resembling slum conditions.
The findings of the Khampepe Inquiry further corroborate this, revealing that many inspected buildings are in poor condition and often uninhabitable, lacking basic services and posing significant safety risks.
Masemola was speaking during an oversight visit to the ongoing Safer Festive Season operations in Pretoria on Friday afternoon.
“A suspect has been identified – we will have the suspect arrested. He is a known suspect, he will definitely, if not today, but over the weekend, that suspect will be arrested.”
Stock’s family issued a statement after his killing, asking that the police be allowed to focus on their work.
“Warrick leaves behind his three young children, his mother and his siblings, whose lives have been irrevocably changed by this profound loss,” the statement said.
Johannesburg Mayor Dada Morero extended his condolences to Stock’s family on Wednesday.
“The City of Johannesburg calls for justice and urges the law to take its course. We join the family in kindly requesting privacy, allowing law enforcement agencies the space needed to conduct a thorough investigation,” he said.
In November 2022, Oupa John Sefoka, better known as DJ Sumbody, was shot and killed.
A few months earlier, in March 2022, Hector Buthelezi, also known as DJ Vintos, was fatally shot.
An accused in these cases is Katiso “KT” Molefe.
According to the State, Molefe is among suspects facing multiple charges, including murder and conspiracy to commit murder linked to an alleged organised crime network targeting DJs.
