SA Police Services (SAPS) are investigating a case of murder and attempted murder following a shooting incident in Centurion on Thursday, which left two people dead and two others injured.
According to Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said, the victims were entering the Blue Valley Golf Country Estate in their car when unknown men opened fire.
Nevhuhulwi said two unknown men were riding motorbikes and started shooting at the occupants of the Toyota vehicle before fleeing the scene.
Nevhuhulwi said the driver and passenger sitting in front were declared dead at the scene, while the other two sustained injuries and were taken to hospital.
Fullview learnt that the two people shot dead are Oscar Nyathi aka “Oscar Baxx” of the Dj dou Malumz on Decks and Thando Sonqishe.
However police withheld the identities of deceased individuals for a strict 24-hour period after notifying next-of-kin, or indefinitely pending formal identification.
Nevhuhulwi said police are investigating two counts of murder and two of attempted murder.
SAPS recently released the 2025/2026 fourth-quarter crime statistics, which recorded a 9.5% decline in the national murder rate.
Despite this, police continue to battle high levels of violent crime and organized syndicates, leading thousands of arrests through nationwide anti-crime operations.
South Africa has one of the world’s highest murder rates, fuelled by robberies and gang violence, with 58 people killed each day between January and March, according to police data.
