SA Police Services (SAPS) are investigating the fatal shooting of an associate of former Major-General Feroz Khan on the R21 in Ekurhuleni, East of Johannesburg.
Fullview learnt that Preggy Padayachee, is the uncle-in-law of Khan and had acted as a spokesperson for Khan’s family on several occassions.
According to police, the forensic teams combed the scene for much of last night following what is believed to have been a targeted hit.
Preliminary reports indicate Padayachee, was driving a Fiat on the R21 at about 8 o’ clock on Monday night when he experienced a breakdown and called for help.
A friend and two others arrived to assist. As they were attending to the vehicle, they came under gunfire.
SAPS spokesperson Dimakatso Nevuhulwi said, “The driver attempted to evade the gunfire but lost control of the vehicle, which collided with a jersey barrier.”
Padayachee is said to have died at the scene, while one passenger sustained a gunshot wound and was transported to hospital.
Khan is expected to take the stand today behind closed doors at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, investigating malfeasance and corruption in the criminal justice system in South Africa.
The private proceedings will deal with sensitive evidence previously heard in camera, after Khan was shot, the commission proceeded with evidence relating to him in his absence.
He was later subpoenaed to testify on 28 September after the commission ordered an independent medical assessment, but failed to appear either in person or remotely.
Khan has faced a much wider range of allegations concerning his conduct within Crime Intelligence. Witnesses have accused him of interfering in the handling of the 2021 Aeroton cocaine seizure, where police recovered a large quantity of cocaine.
