South Africa’s Sinesipho Dambile won the gold medal in the men’s 200m sprint at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, clocking a winning time of 19.96 seconds.
Nigeria’s Udodi Onwuzurike was next to reach the finish line, in a season’s best clocking of 20.09, followed by Jamaica’s Christopher Taylor in a personal best of 20.11.
Dambile claimed a personal best and the gold medal at the Diamond League meeting in Doha last month. He won the men’s 200m in race in 19.74 seconds, shaving off 0.03 off his personal best of 19.77.
Earlier, judoka Donne Breytenbach won bronze in the Women’s -57kg event with her second Ippon (100-0) of the day when she beat Marie Begue of Mauritius.
Both medals brings the total number of medals to 25 so far for South Africa.
Meanwhile South Africa’s Netball team claimed all bragging rights for Africa as they defeated Uganda 62 – 54. The win sees South Africa finishing 5th which is an improvement from their 2022 performance
For the second consecutive time in four years, two African giants meet for the classification match – it was Uganda who emerged victorious the last time the two met in Birmingham.
