The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) has arrested seven Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) officers following the death of a man and the assault of his friend.

The arrests took place on Saturday.

It is alleged that the officers went into a shack in Langaville, Extension 6, on 8 September, where they found four African males.

The reason for seeking out the men has not yet been disclosed by authorities.

IPID’s Lizzy Suping, says five Constables and two Inspectors will appear in court on Monday following an incident in Langaville on Saturday.

She said they went to the shack where they found four men, two of whom were sleeping and the other two watching television.

Suping said as they entered two men ran out with two officers in pursuit.

She said the two in the shack were allegedly assaulted, while gunshots were also heard from outside.

Suping said after the officers left the scene the men went in search of their friends and found one with gunshot wounds to the legs while the body of the other man was found behind a shack not far from theirs.

The officers face charges of murder, attempted murder, and defeating the ends of justice.
