Mamelodi Sundowns kept up the pace at the top of the Betway Premiership on Sunday evening following a dominant 4-0 win against Golden Arrows at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium.

Sundowns began the match meaning business and were attacking Arrows from the first whistle.

The first chance came for Kobamelo Kodisang with an attempt from range but goalkeeper Ismail Watenga made the save, tapping the ball away from danger.

A first-half substitution had to be made for Downs as a tactical change was made from Miguel Cardoso to decongest the midfield as Peter Shalulile was brought on to replace him.

The change definitely paid off for the home team as a penalty was awarded after Shalulile was brought down in the box by the opposition’s goalkeeper.

The spot kick was converted by Lucas Ribeiro in the 44th minute.

An opportunity came for Abafana Bes’Thende to try and equalise from a nearside corner when the ball was played to the far post, but Gladwin Shitolo slipped as he attempted to connect with the ball.

Sundowns went into the halftime break a goal ahead and were dominant in possession.

The second half was similar as they continued to hunt for goals

Shalulile doubled the hosts’ lead in the 65th minute as Downs began to cement their authority against Arrows.

The Namibian completed his brace in the 80th minute as the hosts stretched their lead to three goals.

Teboho Mokoena joined the list of goal scorers as he scored one of his trademark goals from long range five minutes later as the Brazilians continued to run riot at Loftus.

The victory sees Sundowns extend their lead at the top to six points over Orlando Pirates who are trailing behind, however have a game in hand.
