Showmax has dropped a trailer for the three-part documentary of the biggest corporate scam in South African history.
On 6 December 2017, after CEO Markus Jooste resigned amid an investigation into accounting irregularities, Steinhoff’s share price plunged by 90% in just a week, wiping over R200 billion off Johannesburg’s stock exchange, JSE, and off ordinary South Africans’ pensions and investments.
Steinheist is made by Idea Candy, the producers of Devilsdorp, the record-breaking Showmax Original that is now the most nominated documentary going into the South African Film and Television Awards this weekend.
What to expect from ‘Steinheist’
The upcoming three-part documentary will feature the richest cast in Showmax history. A part from Marcus Jooste, former Steinhoff chairman Christo Weise, Bruno Steinhoff, the founder of Steinhoff and Louis du Preez, who is the current Steinhoff CEO and who has been a driving force behind the company’s recovery will all feature in Steinheist.
The documentary also features interviews with Pieter du Toit, the author of The Stellenbosch Mafia, Rose, who wrote Steinheist, a book that inspired the documentary and award-winning financial journalist, Fifi Peters.
There will also be footage from Jooste’s 2018 testimony before parliament.
Steinheist will premiere on Showmax on 22 September 2022, with new episodes every Thursday until 6 October 2022.
