St Andrew’s College (SAC) in Makhanda is proud to congratulate its Matric Class of 2021 on a stellar set of Independent Examinations Board (IEB) National Senior Certificate (NSC) results across all subjects.
Against the backdrop of two-years of learning disrupted by the Coronavirus pandemic, accentuated by lockdowns, online learning, and the disappointments of cancelled sporting and cultural activities, our boys have lived up to the school motto – Nec Aspera Terrent (Difficulties do not dismay us) – this ideal of fearless acceptance of challenge sums up what the school aims to instill in its pupils as preparation for future life.
While we are proud of all 81 of our Matric pupils, there are some highly notable mentions:
- Dominic Owen from Johannesburg, who is our Dux Scholar, achieving 6 distinctions in Accounting, Afrikaans FAL, Geography, Life Orientation, Mathematics and Physical Science.

Indeed, all these results show an exceptional commitment and determination and single-mindedness.

We are proud of the Matric Results of 2021, which reflect the efforts of a cohort of boys who have contributed fantastically in our diverse range of holistic school activities, under difficult conditions.”
Cambridge International A-Level exams
In the Cambridge A Level results that were released on 10 January 2022, all 11 candidates passed. Three quarters of our subject results were A*(starred distinction) or over 90%) to C symbols, and 43% of our subject A Level results were over 80%, including 31% A* symbols. All candidates who wrote Further Mathematics achieved distinctions, while 56% of our results in A Level Mathematics and 50% of our results in A Level Chemistry were A* or A symbols.

We would like to extend our warm congratulations to the whole Matric class, both the boys who wrote the IEB NSC and the Cambridge A-Level examinations, respectively. The Cambridge A-Level programme and the IEB examinations provide an excellent platform for study in South Africa and anywhere else in the world.
We also extend special thanks to the staff who worked with graceful passion to ensure the best possible outcome for our boys; and the parents who have supported the entire process.
