The State Capture Commission is once again asking the courts for more time to extend its work.
The commission was meant to wrap up by the end of June and wants an extension from July to September.
But with the second round of President Cyril Ramaphosa’s testimony still outstanding, the commission says they have to turn to the High Court once more.
Commission chairman Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo explains why they missed their June deadline.
“The assessment that was done was done in good faith, but it just didn’t work. The evidence that was yet to be heard beyond the end of March was very important evidence, it included evidence from former senior executives of state-owned companies such as Transnet and Eskom.

The Commission resumed today with oral testimony from former Transnet CFO, Anoj Singh, and will also hear testimony this evening from former SOE Minister Malusi Gigaba.
Zondo announced this week that the Commission has limited time to conclude its oral evidence and has denied most requests for leave to cross-examine.
