South African National Roads Agency (Sanral) CEO Reginald Demana has resigned, the roads agency announced in a notice published on the JSE’s Stock Exchange News Service (SENS) on Thursday.
His resignation takes affect from 31 August 2026.
Demana is leaving his role to take up a new opportunity that aligns with his long-term career ambitions.
He joined Sanral as CEO in January 2023 with a mandate to accelerate the development of key national road corridor infrastructure projects.
He oversaw the resolution of the Gauteng Freeway Improvement Project (GFIP) e-toll.
He was also responsible for stabilising Sanral’s toll portfolio. During his tenure, the group has made massive progress on strategic infrastructure projects.
This includes the R573 Moloto Road, the N2 Wild Coast Road, the N2-N3 KwaZulu-Natal upgrades, the N2 Corridor in Mpumalanga, and the N1 South Corridor.
“The board thanks Mr Demana for his service and contribution to Sanral and wishes him well in his future endeavours, “said the agency.
Sanral said its board “will begin the recruitment process for a new CEO and will announce an acting CEO [shortly] while that process underway”.
“A further announcement will be released once the board has appointed an acting CEO, which will be no later than 17 July 2026, to support a smooth handover and transition between Mr Demana and the acting CEO.”
The board will now start a recruitment process for a new CEO and will announce an Acting CEO while that process is underway.
It said that a further announcement on the appointment of an Acting CEO will take place no later than 17 July 2026 to support a smooth handover and transition between Demana and his successor.
