The Mommy Club: Sugar & Spice reality series is wrapping up soon, and renowned journalist and talk show host Shahan Ramkissoon will host the reunion special, premiering on Showmax on 25 October.

This will not be Ramkissoon’s first bout on Showmax or the world of reality, as he was among those who starred in The Showmax Roast of Minnie Dlamini earlier this year.

Sugar & Spice premiered on Showmax on 8 August. It is the second instalment of the beloved franchise that began with The Mommy Club, which featured moms from Johannesburg.

It follows affluent mothers within Durban’s Indian community and their extended families, which include grandparents, godmothers, and siblings.

According to a statement shared, the seasoned broadcaster is looking forward to hosting the show and is prepared to tackle the pressing themes and challenging conversations that may arise.

“I’ve been invested in this show from the very beginning. I didn’t start watching just because I got the chance to host the reunion. I know what’s unfolded, the twisted truths and backstabbing, so like every viewer, I have many uncomfortable questions,” he said.

He continued: “I am known for being real, and this time will be no different. I aim to ask the questions that viewers have on their minds. It’s going to be unfiltered, no sugarcoating.”

In the season finale airing on Thursday, viewers will witness a gripping exchange between Lenore and the twins. The intense tension leaves the future of their relationship uncertain, raising questions about whether it can ever be mended.

Ramkissoon said his approach will be authentic. He’s not there to be polished or scripted but to be honest about what the cast has experienced, said, and done on screen.

I want to dive into their stories, analyse their interactions, and explore the fascinating dynamics, especially those that challenge traditional perceptions within the Indian community. No one’s getting a free pass; I’ll stay fair because they all have some explaining to do.

Zinzi Velelo Alake, executive producer at POP24, said they chose Ramkissoon because of his exceptional journalistic and broadcasting skills.

“He has interviewed some of the world’s most influential figures, and we believe this reunion requires someone with his experience. These women are powerful, and Shahan is the ideal facilitator for this conversation.”
