Mamelodi Sundowns defeated Sekhukhune United 4-2 at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Wednesday evening to maintain the lead at the top of the Betway Premiership.
Thapelo Morena and Lucas Suarez found the net in the first half for Miguel Cardoso’s team, while the in-form Lucas Ribeiro and Arthur Sales added the other two goals in the second half.
Katlego Otladisa and former Masandawana forward Keletso Makgalwa scored for Lehlohonolo Seema’s side. Babina Noko made every effort to equalise late in the match, but fortune was not on their side.
The result in Polokwane saw Sundowns open a 15-point gap over second-placed Orlando Pirates, who have four games in hand, in the league standings, while Sekhukhune remained in position three on the table.
The Brazilians are keeping some energy in reserve for a heavyweight bout with Kaizer Chiefs scheduled for Saturday afternoon.
Sekhukhune, meanwhile, will look to recover when they face lower league Milford FC in a Nedbank Cup round of 16 clash the following day.
