Regan Collis, (23) , a member of Vatos Locos gang has been arrested in connection with the killing of two South African Police Service (SAPS) Anti-Gang Unit officers and two civilians in Reiger Park on Friday, 07 August 2026.
The deadly incident unfolded when officers from the Anti-Gang Unit responded to a shooting involving two civilians only to be ambushed upon arrival.
The arrest, carried out at the KwaDukathole Informal Settlement in Germiston, also led to the seizure of two high-calibre R5 assault rifles linked to the lethal ambush.
On Wednesday, 12 August 2026, Collis briefly appeared before the Boksburg magistrate’s court.
Collis is facing four counts of murder, five of attempted murder, two of robbery with aggravating circumstances, and two relating to contravention of the Firearms Control Act.
He is currently facing five other matters, including murder and hijacking charges.
Despite this, Collis intends to argue that it is in the interests of justice for him to be released on bail.
The State, however, is preparing to oppose his application.
Prosecutor Mathews Rampyapedi told the court that the State has provided a provisional charge sheet and that additional charges could still be added as investigations continue.
“The state has provided what we call a provisional charge sheet attached to the J50. It is provisional in the sense that investigations are still ongoing, and there is a possibility of charges being added,” Rampyapedi said.
Collis’ lawyer, Samkele Khuzani, indicated that the defence intends to bring a bail application.
“We’re going to bring a bail application on behalf of the accused person, our client, “Khuzani said.
Hawks spokesperson Katlego Mogale said investigators were continuing to pursue further leads, and that the probe could result in additional charges and more arrests.
“He is a well-known gang member in Reiger Park. Investigators connected the dots and profiled him and found out he also has outstanding cases that also happened in Reiger Park,” Mogale said.
Mogale said the five outstanding matters involve murder with aggravating circumstances and are already before the courts.
Collis remains behind bars and is due back in the Boksburg Magistrates Court on 25 August, where the state is expected to oppose his bail application given his prior breaches and the severity of the charges.
