The City of Tshwane’s MMC for Human Settlements and ActionSA councillor Abel Tau has been placed on precautionary suspension amid allegations of sexual assault.
Tau allegedly attempted to rape a woman married to his friend, who is also a member of the party.
The woman has since laid a complaint to the police, and the matter is now under investigation.
The City of Tshwane has already placed Tau on leave and assured that the office of the speaker will initiate an investigation into the matter.
ActionSA national chairperson, Michael Beaumont says the party’s senate met on Wednesday and decided to place him on suspension pending the outcome of a disciplinary process.
“While such a disciplinary process would be separate from any investigations underway with law enforcement authorities, it remains critical for the party to ventilate the allegations through a properly constituted disciplinary process,” says Beaumont.
“ActionSA can confirm that its disciplinary panel has been convened and will sit during the course of next week to hear this matter,” he adds.
“Until such time as this process is concluded, ActionSA will not comment further on this matter in the interests of the integrity of our disciplinary processes,” says Beaumont.
He has since denied the allegations against him referring to them as a farce.
