Cape Town City’s winless streak continued to 12 matches across all competitions, as they slumped to a 2-1 home loss at the hands of Sekhukhune United at the Cape Town Stadium.
United registered the victory as coach Eric Tinkler returned to haunt his former side, which is struggling.
Against the run of play, Samkele Sihlali, with an assist from Chibuike Ohizu, broke the deadlock in favour of United in the 27th minute.
Ohizu got into the scoresheet after he scored the second for the visitors in the 42nd minute. Vuyo Letlapa provided the assist for the Nigerian to score his fourth league goal of the season.
Khulekani Shezi was sent off in the 46th minute after he received a second yellow card. However, City failed to capitalise on the numerical advantage against their opponents.
The Citizens denied Babina Noko a clean sheet after Kayden Francis scored in the 67th minute. City remain in 14th place with 24 points, while United jump to the third position with 37 points.
The Betway Premiership will resume later in the month, with next weekend blocked out for the Nedbank Cup semifinals.
