President Cyril Ramaphosa has shared a message of encouragement for the Proteas Women ahead of their ICC Women’s ODI World Cup match against India.
The historic match will take place at the Dr DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, India from 11:00AM (CAT).
Ramaphosa called on all South Africans to rally behind the Proteas Women and show their unwavering support by wearing green and gold, watching the match and cheering for the team. Let us unite in spirit and pride as we back our heroines to bring the trophy home.
As it stands, just a 30-minute delay from the original schedule.
Navi Mumbai is still quite gloomy and wet, but do not fret.
If the rain does not let up, the final will be moved to the reserve day, which is Monday. However, tournament officials will make every effort to get the match under way today and then resume it tomorrow if the overs are not completed today.
If there is no action today and tomorrow, the trophy will be shared by the two finalists.
The Navi Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium, has a 45,300-capacity venue. The multi-purpose sports arena, mainly used for cricket, hosted three league games and a semifinal during this year’s Women’s World Cup.
India have an unbeaten record on this ground at this tournament, having registered victories over New Zealand in the league stage and Australia in the semifinal, alongside a washed-out no result with Bangladesh. South Africa have never played at the venue.
