Daniel Levy has stepped down from his role as Tottenham Hospur executive chairman, the London club announced on Thursday.
Levy was appointed in March 2001 and leaves after the club won the Europa League last season as they ended a 17-year wait for a trophy.
Tottenham Hotspur’s statement quoted Levy saying, “I am incredibly proud of the work I have done together with the executive team and all our employees.”
“More than that, we have built a community. I was lucky enough to work with some of the greatest people in this sport, from the team at Lilywhite House and Hotspur Way to all the players and managers over the years.
“I wish to thank all the fans that have supported me over the years. It hasn’t always been an easy journey but significant progress has been made. I will continue to support this club passionately.”
The club said Peter Charrington would become non-executive chairman of the club, a new role.
Charrington, a director of Tottenham’s owners ENIC, was appointed to the Spurs board in March as a non-executive director.
Tottenham may have won a European trophy last season, but the success came amid the backdrop of a difficult Premier League campaign in which Spurs finished 17th under Ange Postecoglou, who was sacked in the summer and replaced by Thomas Frank.
Levy oversaw the club’s switch from White Hart Lane to the state-of-the-art Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in 2019.
A club statement added: “This is all part of the club’s ambition to ensure that it is set up to deliver long-term sporting success… There are no changes to the ownership or shareholder structure of the club.”
