The City of Tshwane is embarking on the public participation process for the draft 2023/24 Integrated Development Plan (IDP) and the draft budget for the 2023/24 financial year.
Tshwane Mayor Cilliers Brink has urged the city’s residents to voice their opinions on the 2023/2024 budget.
The city’s proposed budget totals some R47 billion, with R44.5 billion set aside for municipal operations and R2.4 billion for investments.
The city’s finances have been in the spotlight over the past year.
Last year, the auditor-general officially announced to the City of Tshwane council the first qualified audit report with an adverse opinion for the 2021/2022 financial period.
This led to the resignation of former mayor Randall Williams.
The total municipal debt to Eskom also stands at a staggering R49.7 billion.
Brink says the city is dedicating more than R1 billion to water and electricity infrastructure upkeep and upgrades in an effort to ward off unscheduled power and water cuts.
