SA Police Service in Gauteng are investigating after the bodies of two people were discovered at the MTN Taxi Rank in the Johannesburg CBD on Friday morning.
This is the latest in a series of shootings at taxi ranks across the country.
Recently, four people were shot and killed at a taxi rank in the Port Shepstone CBD.
Gauteng police spokesperson Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi says they are searching for 10 suspects linked to the shooting.
“On arrival at the taxi rank, police found two bodies, one which was on the rooftop of the taxi rank with a gunshot wound and another at the basement with no gunshot wounds.
“The third victim reportedly sustained gunshot wounds also and was taken to hospital.
“It is alleged that approximately 10 suspects came to the rank and started shooting. The motive of the shooting is unknown at this stage, and no one has been arrested.
“A case of murder, attempted murder, and inquest have been opened.”
Police have also launched a manhunt for suspects linked to a cash-in transit heist that took place on the Golden Highway, south of Johannesburg on Friday morning.
National police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Amanda van Wyk said according to a preliminary report, a group of armed suspects intercepted a cash van which was travelling on the Golden Highway.
“The suspects allegedly blew up the cash van and fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money, a rifle and two pistols which they took from the cash van guards.”
Van Wyk said the suspects are alleged to have fled in two getaway vehicles – a blue Audi and a white Toyota Hilux.
“The guards sustained injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.”
She said investigations were ongoing.
