Afrotainment Record label confirmed that musician Mandla ‘Mampintsha’ Maphumulo, who suffered a minor stroke last week, has passed away.
The 40-year-old star died on Saturday morning.
In a statement, the record label said it us with sadness that we share the untimely passing of multi-award winning artist Mampintsha.
“Details on the memorial and funeral arrangements will be shared by the family in due course. The family asks that the public and media respect their privacy as they deal with this difficult loss.
“We ask that you keep his wife Bongekile Maphumulo, their son and their family in your prayers and Afrotainment sends it’s heartful condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.”
In a statement released this week, it was revealed that Maphumulo was admitted to hospital after suffering a stroke over the weekend.
Afrotainment said the star suffered a stroke a week ago after a performance with his band, Big Nuz.
“He is currently in hospital receiving medical attention and is under doctor’s observation,” the label said in the statement.
The family asks that the public and media respect their privacy during this difficult time.
“We ask that you keep him in your prayers. Afrotainment wishes him a speedy recovery, and we cannot wait for him to rock our stages again.”
Maphumulo, who was affectionately known as Shimora to his followers, was married to fellow gqom musician Bongekile Simelane, popularly known as Babes Wodumo, and they have one child who was born in July 2021.
He was also a feature on their hit reality show, Uthando Lodumo, which is currently in its second season and is broadcast on Showmax.
