Exxaro has revoked access of a contractor, who featured in a viral video of a violent assault on a security guard at eBuhlanti Marina Glen in East London.
The mining giant confirmed the men seen in the viral video has been identified as an employee of one of its contractors, Baagi Technology.
The footage, which shows men physically attacking a security guard after he reportedly asked them to move an improperly parked vehicle, sparked intense public anger after it went viral.
In a statement, the company said it was aware of the circulating video depicting the assault of a security guard and made it clear that the behaviour shown was completely unacceptable.
“One of the alleged suspects in the video has been identified as an employee of one of our contractors, Baagi Technology. Exxaro Resources does not tolerate any behaviour that is contrary to our values, and the alleged suspect’s access to our company has been immediately revoked. In line with our code of conduct, Baagi Technology is attending to this matter with the urgency it deserves.”
The incident has also drawn a strong reaction from the Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality (BCMM), which condemned the attack and labelled it a serious criminal offence.
The municipality issued a stern warning to revellers and visitors to public spaces, saying violence and disorder will not be tolerated.
“Come and enjoy our city responsibly. Do not come to tarnish the image of Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality, disrupt public order, or threaten the safety of others. Lawlessness will not be tolerated,” BCMM said, adding that it will continue working closely with law enforcement to ensure public amenities remain safe and dignified.
South African Police Service (SAPS) arrested two suspects in connection with the incident.
They face charges of common assault, were processed, and released on warning. Both are expected to appear in the East London Magistrate’s Court on January 7, 2026.
