South African boxing is not just alive — it’s roaring back into the spotlight. With Fistic Havoc just days away, the stage is set for a sold-out night of elite matchups, raw emotion, and pure sporting drama at The Galleria in Sandton on 21 June.
At today’s official media day, the energy was electric, the fighters were confident, and the message was clear: South African boxing is in resurgence. Driven by Aquila Boxing Promotions (ABP) and fronted by WBC Bridgerweight Champion Kevin Lerena, Fistic Havoc is more than a boxing event, it’s a boxing movement.
“The fights will have zero script,” Lerena declared. “They will be explosive, positive fights with exceptional fighters. I’m promoting these fights because I know what the fighters want. I see it from the perspective of both the boardroom and the corners. My aim is to give the fighters a platform, and with the likes of Supersport on board, we’ll ensure a true resurgence of boxing.”
The weigh-in is set for Friday, but today’s media day has already delivered plenty of heat.
Main Event Showdown: Allen vs Bagwasi
Headlining the card is a fierce battle for the IBO All-Africa Super Welterweight Title between South Africa’s Boyd Allen and Botswana’s undefeated Kagiso Bagwasi.
Lerena had high praise for his main-event fighter: “Boyd is a gentleman and a phenomenal boxer. He’s a pleasure to work with. He was well respected in MMA and now in boxing circles. This will be the fight of the night.”
Allen, looking to claim his first IBO title after a previous attempt fell short, is focused and fired up: “We are going to put on an awesome show. This is my second shot at the IBO title, and this time I will grab it — against the explosive southpaw.”
Bagwasi from Botswana, however, isn’t just here for the lights: “I didn’t come to South Africa for nothing. I am not going home empty-handed. I’ve been working hard for this, and I will stay undefeated.”
Undercard Talent and the Co-Main Event
The night’s undercard features a host of thrilling matchups, including a compelling co-main event featuring Kaine Fourie, who is determined to bounce back from a recent setback:
“Kevin has backed me for a long time. After my last defeat, he was the first person in the changeroom. He messaged me in the morning and called the next night. He told me that the loss would be the best thing to happen to me. I’ve thought about it, and it’s made me hungrier.”
