Former Mamelodi Sundowns and Platinum Stars coach Miguel Ángel Gamondi has been appointed as Young Africans’ new head coach.
Gamondi started coaching on the African continent in 2000 as an assistant coach at Libyan side Al-Ahly; he also held the same role at top African sides like ASEC Mimosas, Wydad Casablanca, Esperance and Etoile du Sahel.
His major achievement was in 2008 when he guided South Africa’s Platinum Stars to the round of 16 stages of the CAF Confederation Cup.
Young Africans who announced on Saturday through their various social media outlets, shared a video of Gamondi.
“I’m Miguel Gamondi, a coach from Argentina. I was working more than 20 years in African football,” he said in his unveiling video.
“I was coaching teams like Wydad Casablanca, Mamelodi Sundowns in South Africa, CR Belouizdad in Algeria, Esperance in Tunis.
“I was lucky to get some good results, some good achievements with them.
“I’m very excited to join this big club with huge history. For me it’s one of the greatest clubs in the history, with incredible fans as well.
“I strongly believe, if we can work together – fans, management, players and technical staff, we can continue to bring success and even greater results.
“I’m really excited to join and hope to see you very soon.”
He will replace Nasreddine Nabi, who opted not to renew his contract and Kaizer Chiefs had opened talks with him, which are expected to concluded in the next 58 hours.
Gamondi will be tasked with guiding Young Africans as far as they can go in the CAF Champions League and reclaim the domestic treble for the third time in a row.
