Job Mokgoro has confirmed that he will be handing his resignation as North-West Premier on Thursday.
His resignation comes amid mounting pressure from the ANC’s task team in the province.
Mokgoro says he met with President Cyril Ramaphosa on Wednesday to discuss his resignation.
“Yesterday I met the president as I committed in the past few days. This morning [Thursday] I will submit a letter of my resignation, to the speaker of the North-West provincial legislature, as premier of the province,”he said during a media briefing.
The North-West province experienced a progressive decline during Mokgoro’s tenure, where several municipalities are currently on the brink of collapse.
Mokgoro previously asserted that even though he was premier, he was not directly responsible for the multiple governance failures in the province.
The ANC North West interim committee wants to replace Mokgoro with veteran Bushy Maape.
