SA Police Services (SAPS) has confirmed the arrest of a 45-year-old man for kidnapping, unlawful discharge of a firearm and defeating the ends of justice following a shooting incident involving an e-hailing driver in Edenvale, East of Johannesburg on Sunday morning, 14 June 2026.
Fullview learnt that the suspect is Molemo “Jub Jub” Maarohanye.
Maarohanye is the host of the popular South African cheater-catching reality show, Uyajola 9/9 on Moja Love.
He is facing the charges of kidnapping, discharging a firearm in public, and defeating the ends of justice.
According to National Spokesperson Athlenda Mathe, “It is alleged that at approximately 07:30, the e-hailing driver had transported a female passenger to a residence in Edenvale when he was confronted by the suspect, who accused him of being involved in a romantic relationship with his girlfriend.”
“The suspect forced the e-hailing driver into his vehicle and prevented him from leaving. During the incident, the suspect reportedly discharged a firearm in the direction of the driver. The e-hailing driver managed to escape unharmed and immediately drove to a nearby police station to report the matter, “said Mathe.
She added that police acted swiftly and arrested the suspect shortly after the incident. Investigations are continuing.
Maarohanye is expected to appear before the Germiston Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 15 June 2026.
In 2012, Maarohanye and his co-accused, Themba Tshabalala, were convicted of murder and attempted murder for drag-racing under the influence of drugs and crashing into a group of schoolchildren in Soweto, killing four and permanently brain-damaging two.
They initially received 25-year sentences, which were later reduced to culpable homicide on appeal in 2014. Both served their time and were released on parole in 2017.
In July 2024, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) formally withdrew all charges of rape, attempted murder, and assault against Maarohanye.
These charges stemmed from accusations made by four women—including his ex-partner, actress Amanda du-Pont—for alleged incidents spanning from 2006 to 2010. The NPA dropped the case after defense representations proved there were no reasonable prospects of a successful prosecution.
