Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach Rhulani Mokwena stopped just short of criticising his players but was clearly unhappy with the 3-2 DStv Premiership victory over Royal AM.
Sundowns took a 3-0 lead in the game, but allowed the KwaZulu-Natal side back into the contest and only a fine late save from goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene spared their blushed and deprived Royal AM of a draw.
“One of those, we won’t spend a lot of time on this match because we won but … we move on,” Mokwena said. “The less I say the better. But we also didn’t do our part as coaches. I think we didn’t prepare the team very well and you could see with the performance we struggled a little bit.
“It’s something we will analyse and get back on to try and improve the performance. But I hope there’s also analysis in other departments. Let’s focus on the positives. Congratulations to them [Royal AM] for fighting back from 3-0. Good, we move on.”
Sundowns had drawn three of their previous four games and have been noticeably not as slick as in the early stages of the campaign.
They are next in action on Saturday when they make the short trip to Tshwane rivals SuperSport United, having played to a 2-2 draw with Matsatsantsa in the reverse fixture less than three weeks ago.
