Orlando Pirates co-coach Mandla Ncikazi has hailed the return of striker Thembinkosi Lorch, who played his first minutes of the season in the 1-1 DStv Premiership draw with AmaZulu on Wednesday
Lorch has been missing throughout the campaign with injury, and his return to fitness is a major boost for The Buccaneers, who have battled in front of goal in recent times.
“You could just see when he came in, he’s a special player,” Ncikazi said. “I’m just happy he’s back. His first game after a long time. There’s no shop that sells quality. He’s just top quality. I just hope we grow from this and be better.”
But Ncikazi also admitted he was frustrated for his players as they continue to spurn chances in matches, though he feels it is due to a lack of luck rather than ability.
“I feel for these players,” Ncikazi said. “I wish I can take ownership for everything that’s happening to them. When we play such good games but good games without points. The ball is just not landing in the net.
“That’s why if anyone is to blame it’s not the players. I will rather take the blame for such performances because I think they are doing everything in their power. It’s just not happening.
“I’ve never seen a team dominate so much. It’s not the only game. You can go back and count the matches where we have been this dominant but just one piece missing. Maybe it’s a phase we must go through as a club. But we have to start scoring. When? I wish it could be soon.”
Pirates are next in action on Saturday when they host TS Galaxy, who have lost all six of their away games so far.
