Magasela Mzobe has resigned as the Umkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party Head of Presidency on the 17th of December 2025, according to his statement on social media.
The matter was kept under wraps until his successor has been found. Sources claim his resignation follows a fallout with party president Jacob Zuma.
In an official statement addressing his exit, Mzobe said, “I ventilated my full reasons before the National officials meeting and appealed to the President and the leadership to accept my resignation.
“This was never made public to allow the leadership to identify a HoP without any undue pressure from the media and membership of MK Party and create unnecessary panic,” Mzobe said.
He added that he is still a member of the ANC’s splinter party, known for chopping and changing leaders.
“I remain a member of the MK Party, ready and eager to help the organisation do well in the upcoming Local Government Elections,” he added.
Meanwhile the party announced it will hold a policy conference in June and will establish election structures on the ground ahead of the local government polls.
Secretary-general Sibonelo Nomvalo said the policy conference will help the party to improve its resolve and tactical strength regarding policy certainty. Despite the party planning an policy conference they are yet to have an elective conference.
“This conference will provide a clear and coherent policy framework, guide public representatives and members,” he said.
Nomvalo said the party is concerned about several issues affecting the country,these include economic inequality, unemployment, especially among the youth, a crisis of governance and state capacity, growing social instability and the water crisis.
The MK party will be contesting its first local government elections. It made a huge impact in the 2024 national elections, gaining 15% of the vote and reducing the ANC’s numbers to just 40%.
