Zandie Khumalo-Gumede has spoken up about her version of events from the night of former Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa’s death.

Khumalo-Gumede was among the five people in the Vosloorus home during an alleged house robbery when the soccer star was gunned down in 2014.

In an exclusive interview with eNCA, Zandie broke her silence after her sister, Kelly Khumalo, also did a tell-all on the channel earlier this month.

Khumalo-Gumede reveals that she was the one who sat next to Meyiwa putting pressure on his wound while on the way to the hospital.

She said, “How do you fish in the same pond for eight years and still get no answers but continue to fish”, before breaking down and asking for tissues.

Khumalo-Gumede continued, “We are not guilty until proven guilty.”

She also said why they don’t go ask Meyiwa’s wife, Mandisa as well.

She went on to talk about how the crime scene was handled saying their small home was packed with strangers and some people she knew when they came back home after taking Meyiwa to hospital.

“What do they mean when they say the scene was tampered with? People were walking in and out of the house so to what extent are you saying the crime scene was tampered with.”

On the night of the incident, Khumalo-Gumede said after the shooting, she went to a neighbour’s house to ask for help and when she came back, “Kelly and Mthoko and some of the guys from next door were holding Meyiwa trying to get him into the back of the car and I just jumped in there and helped in any way that I could.”

“On our way to hospital I could feel that he was starting to get cold as I was putting pressure on him. I was talking to him all the way trying to keep him alive, “she said.

Last week, the trial took a dramatic turn after advocate Malesela Teffo withdrew from the case and walked out of the courtroom.

He stated that his decision was due to alleged harassment by the judge, the presidency, the police and the National Prosecuting Authority.

“I can no longer continue in this court based on the harassment I am receiving, both from the State and from the court,” Teffo said.

Teffo added that would remain as a watching brief for Meyiwa’s brother.

Since then the Presidency said it had noted and strongly refutes the “false claims” made by Teffo that President Cyril Ramaphosa is behind the lawyer’s alleged intimidation and decision to withdraw from the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial.

The matter was provisionally postponed to August 2 for the accused to find new representatives.
